What is a Vanessa Size Photography Portrait Day?
We started running portrait days in order to utilise one location for a whole day, using some of the beautiful places in Adelaide and the Clare Valley. You'll find examples of the images from some of the locations here and in the portrait gallery. Families need to book a time with us for their shoot - there's no limit to the number of people that come along. The beauty of these special days for you is that there is no shoot fee - our normal fee of $150 is waived. We do ask for a $30 commitment fee on booking, which is then offset against your print order.
How long?
We allow 30 minutes per session, but please be patient if I run slightly over this time.
What about the weather?
It's very rare that we have to cancel a shoot, however if there is torrential rain that looks to be set in for the day, we will re-schedule the sessions.
Helpful tips:
Be happy! If you're relaxed and cheerful it's likely to rub off on the kids. Sounds simple but it works. And it's a helpful reminder because it's easy to get stressed trying to keep them clean!
No smile practice. The best photos include the most candid, natural expressions. You can help by thinking of all the things that make your kids laugh – funny memories and anecdotes to induce a giggle etc
We have no set rules with regards to clothing, but try to avoid clothing that is too busy – heavy logo's spots, stripes and busy patterns will take the attention in the images away from your faces. Little girls are always gorgeous in an a-line dress, and boys denim and a collared shirt. The ladies… it's often an idea to cover the tops of your arms with a wrap, jacket etc - It's amazing how many women hate their bare arms! Teenagers (and often younger), we understand that there are sometimes clashes in opinions as to what looks good and what looks cool - it's really not worth having an argument about it, and will often put them in a mood not worth photographing!
In summary, keep it simple, and try and think about the location and the intended look and feel of the images. If you're not sure, please ask!
Choosing your prints
After the session we will arrange a time for you to come into the studio in Gilbert St, city, to view the images. Please allow 1 - 1.5 hours in order to give yourself time to make decisions and look at the various options. We don't proof online, so please try and ensure that all decision makers are present. If you have small children we recommend that you don't bring them along as it can be boring for them and stressful for you! Otherwise, we can arrange a in home print selection session depending on your location.
